Question by : how to convert adult knitting patterns to fit barbie?
Does anyone know or have an idea on how I would convert a real knitting pattern to fit barbie. All the patterns I’ve seen for barbie are pretty ugly so I’d thought I’d this.

I don’t think it will work. It would have to be scaled down far to much and the pattern would lose shape along the way. You could try designing your own patterns?

Barbie isn’t shaped like a real person, so even if you could scale them down, they wouldn’t fit right (unless you were going for chunky). Plus, once you got the gauge down small enough, you’d literally be working under a magnifying glass with hand made needles. There are people who do this, but they’re maybe a little nuts. I suppose you also have to wonder whether a months worth of work is worth it for a Barbie sweater. Smaller isn’t faster unless it means fewer stitches. So scaling down a regular pattern means just the same amount of work as the full sized, except with significantly increased eye strain and hand fatigue.
There are plenty of miniature sweater patterns available.
Here’s an intro to the world of mini knitting:

Now compare that to:

Several different styles, and knit on a size 1 needle (standard sock needle) instead of 8-0 (size 00000000). Honestly, I’m not happy going below 0000 and I do like tiny knitting. Here’s a photo of my mini socks: http://servicedogcentral.org/forum/MGalleryItem.php?id=172 (knit on 000 needles).
I honestly think Barbie would be happy with the Knitpicks sweater collection, and you could finish one in a day instead of a month.
